Global Media Festival – Soheila No.17
February 28 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The Global Media Festival, hosted by Georgia Tech’s School of Modern Languages, presents an annual film and discussion series that focuses on sustainability across languages and cultures. Join the conversation with international film directors, educators, and partners on this year’s topic of “Sustainability in Mental Health”.
This evening’s event will be the screening and discussion of “Soheila No. 17”, the story of a woman that captures the challenges experienced by many in Tehran who are seeking healthy relationships. The film captures mental and emotional frustrations stemming from socio-cultural barriers to satisfying sexual needs in the Iranian Society. Attendees will gain new insights into the perspective and circumstances of single Iranian women as well as certain conventions around womanhood and sexuality in Iran.
The post-screening discussion will include Mahmoud Ghaffari, the director of Soheila No. 17, joining via Skype from Iran for a Q/A session. A roundtable discussion will follow led by Dr. Dean Aslinia, Chair of the Counseling Department at University of Phoenix and the President of Arizona Counseling Association, focusing on sexuality and mental health in the context of Iranian culture.
